An ordinary week on foot
Pulenaz tries walking for most everyday trips over a week: a morning appointment, a food shop and a visit to a café. For the appointment trip she leaves earlier than usual and sets out her bag the night before. She combines the café visit with an errand instead of treating them as separate journeys.
At the food shop she chooses a smaller basket than she would for a car trip, then carries the groceries home in a shoulder bag. The next shop becomes a separate walk. The account follows the preparation and the walk home, showing the changes to the schedule as well as the pleasant stretches outdoors.
Keeping the car
Pulenaz keeps a car while walking most places. She uses it for a bulky purchase that would be awkward to carry, but makes shorter errands on foot. Between car trips she still has to think about the space where it is kept and the standing costs of ownership.
Her week gives a more useful picture than a simple car-free label. The car remains available, yet it does not determine every journey. Walking changes when she leaves and how much she buys at once, while the car remains part of the household budget even on days it stays parked.
What the experiment changes
The biggest adjustment is organizing several short needs into a route. Pulenaz leaves enough time for the walk to her appointment, puts the café stop beside another errand and treats a large purchase separately. Someone choosing which routine to follow can compare the longer preparation with the benefit of combining trips on foot.
