Leena leaves the phone at home

For a week of local journeys, Leena Norms leaves her phone at home and carries a paper map and a small notebook. She writes down where she is going before leaving and takes a card for the bus. Her video follows the week rather than treating the first outing as the whole answer: a familiar walk is easy enough, but a changed bus stop sends her back to the timetable at the shelter.

She misses two things in particular. A map on her phone would have shown the detour without unfolding a sheet in the rain, and she misses choosing music on a long wait. She also enjoys noticing a bookshop she normally passes with headphones on. At the end of the week she brings the phone back for unfamiliar routes and transport updates, but keeps some local walks without music. The result is a choice about when the tools help her, not a rule for everyone.

Pulenaz changes the evening instead

Pulenaz keeps her phone available during the day but puts it away while she cooks and eats for five evenings. She reads, makes a simple meal and writes tomorrow’s list on paper; her laptop is still available. On the second evening she wants to look up a recipe substitution and has to open the laptop instead. She misses the quick answer, though she likes finishing the meal without checking messages at the table.

On the last evening she tries a compromise: the phone stays in another room while she eats, then comes back for a short check and the recipe she has saved. She keeps the paper list because she likes seeing tomorrow’s tasks beside breakfast. Her experiment is smaller than Leena’s and its outcome is different: she restores the useful lookup, but leaves the phone off the table.

Two ways to follow the trade-off

Leena’s journey makes maps, music and waiting visible; Pulenaz’s evenings turn on a recipe and a message check. Both show what they missed before deciding what to restore, so the interesting part is the adjustment after the experiment.
