Summary

Pulenaz’s small observations suit a weekly walk diary; a town at closing time and a live walk invite different ways of watching.

Pulenaz: what changed on the weekly walk

Pulenaz returns to the same path in a weekly short film, giving small changes time to become a story. In the first film a bare hedge opens a view of the road. The following week she stops at the same gap, now softened by leaves, and notices that the sound of the road is less prominent behind the foliage. In a later film she turns the camera toward a flower stall that has appeared on the corner.

The repeated landmarks help viewers compare the weeks without a narrator turning the film into a lesson. Pulenaz does not need a new destination every time: the pleasure is seeing what she chose to notice on a familiar route.

A town as the shops close

On a regular evening town walk Pulenaz starts while the bakery is still lit, passes again as the sign is brought inside, and continues along the street as a grocer stacks its boxes. By the return along a side road the main shop windows are dark and the sound of conversation has moved toward the cafes.

The walk follows a change over an evening rather than using darkness as a spectacle. The closing routine gives the viewer a sense of how the street works for people who use it every day.

Walking live with conversation

Julie Falconer takes a longer city walk live and answers questions as they arrive. A viewer asks about a side street; she turns into it, describes the small shops and rejoins her planned route. Later she answers a question about why she chose a bridge, using the view back along the street to explain the connection.

The live format has a different rhythm from Pulenaz’s edited weekly films. Julie can change direction or answer a question in the moment; Pulenaz can place two views of the same hedge next to each other to show the change across weeks.
